If your urinals are older (from 1993 and earlier), you are eligible for the $75 rebate option when you install any EPA WaterSense certified urinals using 0.5 gpf. Eligible commercial buildings must have been built prior to 1995.

What are the benefits?

Upgrading to half-gallon urinals results in huge water savings, which can also lower your utility bill. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that a typical office building has the potential to reduce its water use by 26,000 gallons per year simply by switching to half-gallon urinals.

  • The rebate helps to cover some of the upfront costs.
  • Reduced water usage can lower your water and sewer bill month after month.
  • Products that earn the WaterSense label are independently certified to ensure they meet water efficiency and quality performance standards.

General Requirements

The urinal installed must be listed on the EPA WaterSense eligibility list, with a valve and fixture combination that is rated at 0.5 gpf or less. This list is available online at: https://lookforwatersense.epa.gov/Product-Search-Results-Urinal.html. Urinals that were manufactured in 1993 or earlier are eligible. Urinals being replaced must be conventional models with flush volumes rated 1.0 gpf or more.

  • You must be an existing potable water utility customer of the city of Tampa, city of St. Petersburg, city of New Port Richey, Pinellas County, Pasco County or Hillsborough County.
  • Eligible non-residential buildings must have been built prior to 1995.
  • Applications must be submitted within 1 year of purchase.

Documentation Requirements

  • A photograph of each old urinal you wish to replace—clearly showing the gallons per flush (gpf), which may be found on the top of the valve—is required. The number of photos you need to submit is outlined in the chart below. You may also schedule a free pre-installation inspection to ensure the units qualify by calling (727) 791-2323.

    1-10 Urinals replaced – One photo per toilet, up to 10 photos
    11-49 Urinals replaced – 10 photos
    50 or more – Please contact a Tampa Bay Water Wise to schedule a pre-installation inspection at (727) 791-2323.

    As an alternative, or if you are unable to provide the photographs, you may have both your old and newly installed urinals inspected. The number of old urinals you have to keep is the same as the number of photos you would have submitted. The old urinals will be inspected at the same time as your newly installed urinals. After a successful inspection, a rebate will be issued if all terms of the rebate are met.
  • A purchase receipt is required, indicating the brand, model number, itemized costs, number of units purchased, payment indication, purchase date and install date (if applicable).
  • A copy of the utility bill.

Customer Agreement

  • Applicant must be an existing potable water utility customer of the city of Tampa, city of St. Petersburg, city of New Port Richey, Pinellas County, Pasco County or Hillsborough County.
  • Tampa Bay Water Wise reserves the right to verify the purchase and installation of the toilet(s) through a post-installation inspection. If the rebate inspector is unable to conduct a scheduled inspection to verify purchase and/or installation, the rebate check may not be issued.
  • Applicant must allow Tampa Bay Water Wise or its third-party inspector access to review the completed installation for up to two (2) years after a rebate check has been paid in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the program.
  • Tampa Bay Water Wise reserves the right to inspect all rebate submissions to determine eligibility. Fraudulent requests for rebates or duplicate submissions will be denied. Any paid rebates will be subject to repayment to Tampa Bay Water Wise if fraudulent activity is determined.
  • Applications submitted with missing or incomplete information will be subject to processing delays and/or denial of the rebate request.
  • Complete rebate applications submitted may take up to 30 days to be processed, approved, and have rebate checks sent out. Rebate approval is at the sole discretion of Tampa Bay Water Wise, and submission of a rebate application does not guarantee rebate approval.
  • In order to receive a rebate, applicants must fulfill application requirements, meet rebate criteria, and accept the customer agreement.
  • Rebate(s) will be issued as a check made payable to the account holder or property owner. Checks will not be issued to third parties or contractors, unless designated by the property owner with a general release form here.
  • The rebate issued cannot exceed the purchase price of the installed product.
  • Rebates are offered on new products only. Used or refurbished items are not eligible for a rebate.
  • All products must be owned by the customer. Rented or leased products are not eligible for a rebate.
  • New construction projects are not eligible.
  • Purchases must be made on or after March 1, 2020, with applications submitted within one year of purchase.

  • How do I determine the flush volume of my existing urinal?
  • The gallons per flush (gpf) may be found on the top of the valve or from a free pre-installation inspection.

  • I am replacing more than 20 urinals, how can I arrange for Tampa Bay Water to assess the property to ensure all of the units qualify?

  • Who is eligible to receive non-residential rebates?
  • Only property owners listed in the county assessor’s records are eligible to receive rebates, unless the property owner elects to assign the rebate to an authorized representative or third party by using the general release form here. Since property records and listings may vary, the program will allow rebate checks to be written to property owners or their authorized representatives when sufficient documentation is provided.
